You want it, you got it.

A Blogger, who shall remain nameless, emailed me today and requested that I "stop objectifying men on my blog by posting 'pretty boy pictures.'" Ok, sure it was a joke (props) and a funny one at that, but it got me thinking. You're right, it's such a double standard to only objectify men on here...

I actually love these photos, and secretly long to be a Vanity Girl... Check out Vanity Fair each month for new Vanities.

How many actresses can you name?

  3. First of all, this might be your best post ever (sorry - it had to be said).

Secondly, I feel out of the loop. In college when I was studying photography, I used to buy VF religously to get inspiration from the photos (nowadays, not so much). Thing is, back then they used the Vanities spot for up & comin' male actors too (somewhere in my notebooks lay the pages where they featured Vince Vaughan and Russel Crowe).

Guess when you don't buy a mag for a few years you can miss out huh?

  4. I'm also sorry if it had to be said, but I don't regret following your blog, Ivy. Secondly, I feel sorry for the nameless blogger who sees sexism where there is none.

  5. Oh and one more thing: my favourite picture in the lot? Although I'm not an expert in photography, I'll say that it's the one with Kristen Bell.

  6. I think the Summer Glau one is my fav. Toss up between her and Mary Elizabeth Winstead.

  7. I have seen most of these, but it wasn't until you put them all together that I realized how much they are inspired by the great Gil Elvgren. He was the Norman Rockwell of pinup girls.

  10. Just realized I used a few of these (including Summer Glau) in an animation I made. This is part of a documentary that is 23 minutes long, but this is a three minute "fun" part. See if you can spot their gams:
