What I like about Michael Cera is that, whatever it is he's doing, it never really feels like acting. On the downside, there's a certain sameness to everything, but on the upside, I'm so charmed by him that it doesn't really matter that I'm seeing the same kind of thing over and over again.
I love Cera. He could stretch a bit, but you have to wonder if some of that isn't him being typecast more than a lack of range. I can just hear a director/producer saying. "Different can be good, but I love your schtick. Can you give me that? Trust me, no one will EVER get tired of it!"
He was the #1 reason I'd even consider seeing Year One.
@Reel Whore, I was really excited to see Year One till I started reading the reviews, and then I lost my drive... I still kind of want to see it though.
Thank goodness for the second-run theater here. I'll give this about two more weeks in major theaters and then I can catch it there for $1.50. I'm catching a lot of this summer's movies there due more to quality than cost.
The title is awesome! Cera is so awkwardly cute.

ReplyDeleteArrested Development - great. Superbad - great. Juno - great, but comeon kid, show some range.
ReplyDeleteHe's got about three films left before it officially wears thin and people will be screaming for his head.

ReplyDeleteYear One has its cute Michael Cera moments but it's definitely a guy flick with all the gross-out humor.
