Eclipse Gets a Director, Barrymore Gets a Makeover, and Lex Luthor Gets a Bailout (he hopes)

First off, I've decided not to post the trailer for Sam Raimi's upcoming Drag Me To Hell, because I watched it and it looked so awful that I just didn't feel like sharing. But watch it if you must...

Hand drawn Ladies
After SNL's hilarious impromptu visit from Justin Timberlake and GF Jessica Biel playing iconic cartoon sex kitten, Jessica Rabbit, Total Film decided to go ahead a make a list of 6 movie actresses who should just bite the bullet and play cartoons. The list is great, and Amy Adams is right on as The Little Mermaid.

ECLIPSE HAS A DIRECTOR!
Just as I was about to report updates on the Director buzz surrounding Eclipse of the Twilight series, Nikki Finke over at Deadline Hollywood Daily claims she can confirm that Summit has told them privately that they are officially bringing Guillermo del Toro protege Juan Antonio Bayona aboard to helm the project. His last big gig was directing The Orphanage, which I never saw. Did people like that movie? Now awhile back I mentioned before word was out about Weitz taking over New Moon, that I thought a foreign director (ahem, Alfonso Cuaron) would be a really good choice. It worked for Potter afterall.

So you heard it from Nikki, VERY EXCITING! I really hope this is true.

UPDATE: Variety (the god on high of sources), has confirmed this is true. Time to celebrate!

3.13.09 NEW UPDATE: Apparently the brakes are back on, so says the LA Times. Have to put a halt on the conga line for now...

Ink Trailer and FSJ Review

I know I'm a little late in getting this trailer up, but reading Cole, over at Film School Reject's glowing review reminded me. From the trailer Ink looked like a much scarier, indie live action version of Monsters, Inc. and from the review it looks like I was right! It's being pegged as a visually splendiferous dark fairy tale, that pushes the boundaries of the medium... I don't know about all that, having not yet seen it, but I can say the trailer looks pretty interesting, and I hope I get a chance to see it... somewhere... some day. Where the heck is this playing?

Mysteries of Pittsburgh Trailer and why I didn't like it

I saw the trailer for The Mysteries of Pittsburgh yesterday and debated back and forth about whether to post it or not. See, as much as I lovingly adore Peter Sarsgaard and all the film related joy he has brought to my life, I don't think this movie looks particularly promising. It's possible that I'm a little biased though, because I really hate Sienna Miller (only as an actress of course). Her movies have this annoying tendency of sucking, and more often than not, it has to do with her. But you know, prove me wrong Sienna! Let's see how you do.

First Promo for HBO's GREY GARDENS!

I'll admit to being very skeptical about HBO's Grey Gardens when I first heard about it, and even now I remain so. But after seeing the first official promo, some of the ice is starting to thaw because Drew Barrymore (no Eclipse for you, haha!) and Jessica Lange look like they really could pull off being the bouviers. It seems make-up can perform astounding miracles. The original documentary portraits are deeply ingrained in everyone's mind, and this can never take away from that. So whatever they do, the original brilliance will always stay intact.

There's really no explanation necessary here. It's just funny. or die.
