This Week's Break Out!

This week's Break Out is, Olivia Thirlby!

Finally we come to the first of what I hope will be many female Break Outs! Currently Ms. Thirlby still has a pretty short resume, but it's already become clear that this NYC born and bred actress is moving quickly. I was first made aware of her through Juno, where she played said title character's best friend Leah. It wasn't the biggest part, but it was obvious that she could pull off the humor. The next big project up was The Wackness in which she played the choice pot head teenage crush of Disney famous Josh Peck. As opposed to her overly indie/stylized counterpart Ellen Page (whom Thirlby has made it clear she's tired of talking about), Thirlby is fresh faced, delightful and careful not to push that "annoying" boundary. But it is a fine line... and if not careful her turn in Snow Angels could snowball into making her the next Zooey Deschanel (which I guess wouldn't really be the worst thing). But as opposed to Juno's fairly unrealistic Page/Cera relationship, Snow Angel's teen romance fits perfectly and feels real (a lot like Lymelife, see it!). I think Thirlby's best quality is the fact that I would want to hang out with her, and I think so would a lot of people. Whether or not this means her career has the potential for longevity remains to be seen. I'd rather see more of her than Page...

So check out Olivia Thirlby, this week's Break Out!

She's super cute and a damn fine actress. She was excellent in Snow Angels, and I liked seeing her get frisky in The Wackness, a movie that I thought was only OK overall.

Great pick, and the only thing i find even remotely tolerable in DGG's shrill "Snow Angels."

It's interesting to see how Thirlby has so quickly surpassed Ellen Page after Juno's success. Page is stuck playing a variation of the same character, while Thirlby has been great in two wildly different roles. Lovin' her right now.

So glad this week's Break Out is gettin some love!

I'm considering who I should do next week, maybe Jeremy Renner. Thoughts? Suggestions? I've also got a lot more gals lined up.
